University Residence of Ajuda University Campus – public tender for construction launched

António Cruz Serra explains that the Ajuda’s university residence, which will have a total of 300 beds, represents an investment of 6.5 million euros. The project will be implemented in phases: the first phase consists of the installation of 150 beds and various infrastructures, like laundry and study rooms and the remaining beds will be reserved for a second phase.
The Dean’s expectation is that the first stage construction works will be awarded in 2016 and last for one year. “Perhaps in the second half of 2017/208 we’ll have the residence functioning”, he anticipates.
“It’s very much needed”, he says, underlining that from his experience, “as new residences are made available, even in less attractive places in terms of location, the demand is bigger than the offer”.
This project was subject of a public contest for ideas, where studio “CVDB Arquitetos”, by Cristina Veríssimo and Diogo Burnay won. According to the authors, “the building is developed around a central community courtyard and consists of three connected blocks, corresponding to three distinct construction phases. Each block works autonomously in relation to what will be built in the next phase. Circulation within the building is continuous – in a “loop” – when all construction phases are completed”.
In this enterprise, Projectual developed and harmonized all projects in the areas of specialty.
