Reopening of Galveias Palace

Jun 10, 2017

According to the Lisbon City Hall website, “in July (2017) it will be 86 years old and will now reopen fully renovated. Five reading rooms, multipurpose rooms and a lounge, are some of the features that the space offers, plus another floor, new facilities, more lighting and better furniture. There are two thousand square meters and more than three hundred seats, more than twice as before”.

Created in 1931, the library is one of the oldest in Lisbon, and according to Catarina Vaz Pinto “it has always been the most important in the city”. It now reopens with another floor, with its interiors restored, with more reading, training, social and work rooms, with a new collection management system (documents identification by radio frequency), with a modern system service to the public through a self-loan machine, explains the councilwoman.

In this project, Projectual developed all engineering specialties forming a team with João Lúcio Lopes Arquitetos, who won the Public Tender.
